Visually stunning, kinesthetically invigorating, and intellectually evocative, Museum of False Memories is a tour de force of visual movement theater that examines the dynamic relationships between memory, objects and perception over time. The performance is inspired by the work of visual artist Joseph Cornell whose boxed assemblages earned him the reputation for being one of the most poetic and mysterious artists in the US.

Recipients of Dance Metro DC's 2010 Founders Award for Innovation in Dance, Dance Box Theater Artistic Directors Stephen Clapp and Laura Schandelmeier present a spirited quintet featuring unique "box solos," a dance that takes place inside a giant bubble and an intricate and evocative ensemble. Performed to a majestic and dramatic orchestral score by local composer Jamie Kowalski, the work is danced by Clapp and Schandelmeier with guest artists Valerie Branch, Briana Carper, and Ilana Faye Silverstein. With lighting design by Ben Levine and costumes by Renate Maile-Moskowitz, Museum of False Memories marks Dance Box Theater's eighth full-evening performance.

Known for their unique approach to creative processes, use of new technologies and development of innovative partnerships, Laura Schandelmeier and Stephen Clapp (Co-Founders and Co-Artistic Directors of Dance Box Theater, Inc.) have been collaborating since 2004 and have since premiered seven full-evening performance works with increasing recognition regionally, nationally and internationally. Schandelmeier and Clapp have received choreographic commissions from the Creative Communities Fund of the Community Foundation for the National Capital Region, the InSeries and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The Co-Artistic Directors have each received numerous awards from the Maryland State Arts Council and the Prince George's Arts and Humanities Council for their individual artistry.

Dance Box Theater has had works presented by Dance Place (Washington, DC), The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (Washington, DC), the Source Theater Festival (Washington, DC), Joe's Movement Emporium (Mount Rainier, MD), The Clarice Smith Center for the Performing Arts (College Park, MD), Theatre Project (Baltimore, MD), The Goose Route Dance Festival (Shepherdstown, WV), The State of The Nation Festival/ArtSpot Productions (New Orleans, LA), Alternate ROOTS (Atlanta, GA), Dance Base (Edinburgh, UK).
