Joe's Movement Emporium
We Are Here identifies intersections between human experience, fairy tale, kinesthetic rigor, reflection and movement investigation. The work includes elements of
dynamic partnering, environmental projection, original music and a diverse cast of performers. Featuring a new music score by Stephen Clapp, We Are Here is performed by Stephen Clapp and Laura Schandelmeier with guest dance artists Brooke Kidd and Wakili McNeill,
lighting design by Ben Levine, and costumes by Renate Maile-Moskowitz.
We Are Here premiered at Dance Place in Washington, DC on March 31 2012 to high acclaim from audiences. The work will be presented again in September 2012 at Joe's Movement Emporium / World Arts Focus with support from Alternate ROOTS and the Maryland State Arts Council.

About DANCE BOX THEATER:
Dance Box Theater is a dance theater company whose creative process is fluid, collaborative and non-conventional. The companies'work explores issues of social justice and human interaction and is based on the collaborative partnership between seasoned professionals, Laura Schandelmeier and Stephen Clapp who bring their talents together to create choreography through many hours of intricate partnering. They collaborate with other performers, visual artists, musicians and technical artists to create interdisciplinary work.
Schandelmeier and Clapp began working together in 2004 and since then have created seven full-evening performance works. They have received choreographic commissions from the Creative Communities Fund of the Community Foundation for the National Capital Region and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. In 2010, Schandelmeier and Clapp received the Metro DC Dance Awards' Founder's Award for Innovation in Dance. In addition to dance theater productions, Dance Box Theater has been engaged in arts-integration residencies, professional development for educators, and arts education for youth throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region and beyond.
