How do we navigate towards truth and healing when bombarded with syndicated lies and celebratory misogyny
amidst a culture of sexual aggression and ongoing displays of racism at the highest levels of power?
Dance Box Theater's Naked King: Subject to Change - Part I seeks to expose white supremist systems in order to transform them towards equity, justice and healing. A full-evening dance theater work featuring Ronya Lee Anderson, Valerie Branch, Melissa Lineburg, Tariq O'Meally and guest performance artist, Pricilla Smith as The Real Donna J. Trump, this work examines systems of oppression that perpetuate racism, sexism and misogyny and explores how these systems manifest in the art form of dance. Choreographed by Laura Schandelmeier and Stephen Clapp in collaboration with the dancers and an original music score by Clapp, the work exposes a white patriarchy that aims to maintain and build its own power. Like the child in Hans Christian Anderson's tale, we aim to illuminate that "...the Emperor has no clothes."
